Arlie Tenner has been a thief most of her adult life; a first class thief at that. She’s stolen from some the wealthiest people in New York and Connecticut. With a slightly guilty conscience, she’s turned over, if not a new leaf, then a new direction. Now she only steals from the wealthy low-lifes of society. And her latest target is Edward Reibman.
Reibman’s a middleman. Essentially, it is his job to put sellers of items together with prospective buyers. Of course what’s being sold and purchased isn’t exactly legal, but it is extremely profitable. And this is why he makes such a good target for Arlie.
Of course when Arlie stumbles onto Reibman’s latest sale, she can’t bring herself to leave it behind. Not because of its value, but instead because of its potentially horrifying ramifications. She can’t allow the contents of the small silver case to be sold to anyone. Arlie knows she has to find a way to get the case back to where it was originally stolen from… or at the very least, get it to the government.
But how was she to do that exactly without putting herself and her own freedom in jeopardy?
After trying to discern a course of action, Arlie has to turn to a man she barely knows, and isn’t all that sure she can trust.
Ken Fairmont isn’t exactly the most social guy in the area; he also isn’t known for being all that nice to Arlie. But desperate times call for desperate measures, and a briefcase full of “death” is more than enough reason for Arlie to pick Ken’s brain. The ending result of course is not exactly what she’d envisioned, and could turn out to be the biggest mistake she’s made in her entire life.

Well I got this book as I am a relative of the author even though I don't recall ever meeting her so I am not entirely sure I ever have. I am an avid reader and typically read a book per day and generally read authors like Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell and Iris Johansen. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I got this from my mom (Tina Wheeler-Baker) but she said it was good so I gave it a try. From the start I fell in LOVE with the main character. She is not the typical main character which was so nice. Unlike some of the other reviews I did like the ending, it left some openings for a follow up novel. I am really hoping C.L. Actually there were a lot of good aspects to this novel, but the ending, although not surprising, was totally disgusting. Also, the book needs a very serious proofreading.
I got it on Saturday and couldn't put it down!!! It was totally worth the read.
I agree with the previous poster, it wasn't really a romance. It was more of a suspense novel.
I liked this book! I got it a few days ago and since then we had a snow storm. It was a perfect read for sitting by the fireside! It was suspensful and witty from the start. Kind of a mystery/romance with a sense of humor. It had great characters and was smooth and easy to keep up with. I was worried after I read the review of the ending being "disgusting". I like suspense, but don't much care for gross novels. But it wasn't disgusting at all, so I don't quite understand that comment. Anyway, I couldn't put it down!
This is the first time I've seen this author, and I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't really a Romance, so the tag was off, it was more a mystery or suspense novel, but it was good. It had a good pace, didn't drag out and it a certain sense of humor. I really enoyed it.
I look forward to her next release.
